Neringa - the pearl of Lithuania and Europe, the Mecca for artists, and the recreation oasis for the tired. Sand dunes with the sparse vegetation, seashore forest with hundred year-old trees and hill pine trees planted by people, white sand beaches, smoked fish smell, unique culture and architecture – these are the accents reflecting the uniqueness of this land, which make Neringa attractive for Lithuanian as well as foreign tourists.
Neringa locates in the very western part of Lithuania, it's part of Curonian Spit between the Baltic sea and Curonian Lagoon.
Neringa was founded in 1961 when the five settlements Nida, Juodkrante, Preila, Pervalka and Alksnyne were joined into one administrative unit. Neringa is unique in a way that the only means to reach the mainland is ferry. Neringa is part of Kursiu nerija National park. - the boundary separating man and nature is very fragile in Neringa. In 2000 Curonian spit was included into UNESCO World Heritage list as an object cultural landscape.
